Africa Poetry Project - Jeff Womack

Create a two page poem based on an assigned region and the major conflicts going on within that region in Africa or the Middle East. Poems will have at least 7 footnotes that explain, in further detail, the context behind the phrases. Along with their oral presentation of the poem, students must setup and show a Google Docs presentation on the class DLP projector, linked to the Edmodo assignment, while they read their poem. This will create a visual and auditory story of events for students. Minimum requirement of 4 credible online sources and a submitted bibliography (must be approved by Mr. Womack and in MLA format before presentation day). Students used EasyBib or NoodleBib to create works cited pages.

Campaign Commercials - Brian McKenna

The project is a terrific lesson, but was hampered this year by technology issues. The project was to create a presidential election commercial for one of the past elections in 1960, 1964, or 1968. We viewed presidential commercials at the Living Room Candidate. The site also hosts Admaker, a video production tool. Students were frustrated with the video production program offered at the website for our project. I felt some of my students did not have enough experience in this area and gave up too easily when a road block emerged. I also felt that some better explanation/direction could be provided. I only gave them one day to work on it in the library. I felt that was adequate and this did suffice for many. For the future I do need to test the website out to see if it has improved for even I had problems saving work at the site.

Questions to be answered and turned in before your presentation:
  1. What issue(s) will be the focus of your advertisement?
  2. What are the strengths your candidate has on this issue(s)? (You will want to list facts, which can include support of previous bills regarding this issue.)
  3. Describe the criticisms the opposition is making of your candidate on this issue. Is there evidence to back any of the criticisms?
  4. Describe the criticisms your candidate is making of the opposition on this issue. Is there evidence to back any of the criticisms?
  5. What emotions will you try to obtain from the viewer and what is the purpose of your commercial?
  6. What form(s) of propaganda devices will you use in your advertisement? (You must use at least one.)
